Elizabeth Anne Sutherland Fields

August 13, 1939 — June 7, 2019

Elizabeth Anne Sutherland Fields passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home surrounded by her three children and grandchildren on Friday, June 7, 2019. Elizabeth was known to all as Anne. On August 13, 1939, Anne was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to James and Chrissie Sutherland. In 1954, Anne graduated from David Kirkpatrick High School with exceptional honors and an high IQ at the tender age of 15. As a youngster, Anne was a skilled swimmer, placing first and second place in Edinburgh's city-wide swim meets for the breaststroke and backstroke. Anne met her first husband, Joseph Bernard Davis, while he was stationed in Edinburgh, Scotland, serving in the United States Air Force. Joseph and Anne married in 1959, in Washington, DC. From this union, five beautiful children were born, Michael Bernard (1958), Tarey Solanj (1960); Anthony Warren (1962); Dany Nicole (1963); and Ian Keith (1964). All of their children were born while on foreign military duty in France and Spain. In 1970, after an amiable divorce from her first husband, Anne married John Charles Fields (Turk), who was a sergeant in the United States Army. After their marriage, John and Anne, along with Tarey and Dany, soon moved to New Jersey, and then were stationed in Erlangen, Germany for a few years. Eventually, they all settled back in the Washington, DC, area to be nearer to family, first in Greenbelt, Maryland, and then in Fort Washington, Maryland, where she has resided since 1978. Anne was an avid reader. She would read two or three books a week. She was also a world traveler, loved to dance, and she even enlisted in the Naval Reserves for several years. Anne loved to decorate her home, shop, and travel. Her sense of fashion was always on point. For the past 40 years, Anne’s occupation had been as a Property Manager for several apartment or condominiums communities. In 2017, Anne retired as the Property Manager of Heritage Court Condominiums. Anne was passionate about her family and friends. Anne spoke her mind, and when she did, she would tell you to get over it, and that she still loved you. Everyone knew that if you needed help and/or advice, she was the “go to” person. Anne raised her first grandson, Ricco Anthony Maurice Williams, and then later her second grandson, Ian Keith Davis II. She also has a younger sibling, Christine Rami, who she raised and nurtured during her travels and adventures. Anne was the most nurturing, loving, caring, protective, and feisty mother or grandmother anyone would dream for. Even though Anne became an American citizen, she made sure that her children and grandchildren knew her Scottish heritage and made sure they all kept in touch with her family in Scotland by planning trips to and visiting Scotland, along with her children and grandchildren as often as she could. Anne is survived by her two daughters, Tarey Houston and Dany Davis; a son, Ian Davis, 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Christine Rami; a niece, Leila Rami, an Aunt, Eileen Giloulie; sister-in-laws, Joyce Hall and Donna Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins both in Scotland and the United States. Anne was preceded in death by her father, James; mother, Chrissie; husbands, Joseph Davis and John Fields; her two sons, Michael Davis (2019), and Anthony Davis (1981), and her two brothers, Jimmy Sutherland and Ian Sutherland. Our hearts are filled with sorrow. Anne will be missed immensely by all. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Elizabeth Anne Sutherland Fields please visit our Sympathy Store.
