Eugene Melnitchenko Investment Analyst/Research Director, Author March 8, 1937 – July 15, 2021 Eugene Melnitchenko, a retired Investment Analyst/Research Director and an author, died on July 15, 2021 at his home in Owings, MD of heart disease. He was 84. Mr. Melnitchenko was born in Cherkassy, Ukraine, as a child spent WWII in a prisoner of war camp in Luebeck, Germany, and after the war in a Displaced Persons camp in Heidenau. He came to the United States in 1952 and, after graduating from Seward Park High School in New York, served in the United States Marine Corps for three years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He started on Wall Street as a messenger, finished three universities at night while working full time, New York City College with a BA in philosophy, New York University with an MA in philosophy and an MBA in economics also from New York University. He progressed to an Investment Analyst and was promoted to Vice President by the United States Trust Company of New York. He was a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Supervisory Analyst, and a registered broker. He worked for several leading financial institutions, Including Legg Mason in Baltimore, Principal Financial in Dallas and finished his financial carrier as a Senior Vice President and Research Director at Sutro & Company in California. He was three times an All-American health care analyst. He was a member of the Financial Analysts Federation and Financial Analysts Societies of New York and Dallas. His first wife, Valentina, died in Dallas in 1989. Mr. Melnitchenko turned to writing after retiring from the investment business and became widely published in local and national publications. He co-authored with his second wife, Helena Mann-Melnitchenko, two books, The Road to Ukraine’s Independence, an intellectual review, and Playing Fields, a fictionalized memoir of the investment business and the pharmaceutical industry, and authored his own book Thoughts on Philosophy. He was an All-American soccer player, playing for several clubs in New York and Dallas, Texas. Most of his life he was interested in music and, a natural tenor, sang in several church and secular choirs, the last being his church, St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Silver Spring, Maryland. He is survived by his wife Helena, and his son from his first marriage, Dereck in Jackson, New Jersey. He is also survived by two step daughters, Katherine in Royal Oak, Maryland and Valerie in Arlington, Virginia, and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his son Mark in Dallas, Texas. His service at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral will be Monday, July 26, 2021 at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Atco Cemetery in New Jersey.
