Evelyn C. Bressant was born on March 18, 1943, to the late Christine and William Rose in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from George Wingate High School. Evelyn worked as a financial associate in the
Foreign Exchange Department for Chase Bank for over 20 years.
She took an early retirement to care for her spouse, William M. Bressant who preceded her in death. Mom, Grandma, Nana, Bay, and Evie were only a few of the names she was affectionally called by her family and friends.
Evelyn was a kind and compassionate person who loved to engage in conversation. She had a huge heart, a fun personality, and was a true giver. She enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, and watching her game shows.
Evelyn also enjoyed shopping and going to the casinos with her friends.
Traveling was one of her passions. One of her favorite places to visit was the Grand Bahamas especially since she was able to go with her good friend. During her lifetime, Evelyn was able to visit several other islands, however, she always compared them to her trip to the Grand Bahamas. It soon became apparent that it was the casinos on the island that won her over. Evelyn was always ready to travel. When the family or her children called, she had her passport on hand, whether it was Jamaica or the Grand Cayman Islands, she would always
take travel adventures with them.
Evelyn loved her family above all else. She relocated from Brooklyn, New York to Georgia to be closer to her grandchildren when they were younger and to help her daughter. There is nothing like the love of a grandmother. She got her license and learned how to drive at sixty years old. This was a newfound freedom for Evelyn. She took her grandchildren to the mall and enjoyed many other activities with them. When her daughter left Georgia, Evelyn moved to Maryland to be with her son and help him with her grandson. She truly knew how to put family first. Living in Maryland allowed her to be closer to nieces and nephews as well. She lived with her son until she got her place at Branchwood Towers where she made several friends. Pre-covid, they even had weekly card games. There were trips to her favorite casinos quarterly or more frequently when someone would drive.
She enjoyed being there with her friends and all the fun activities.
The residents there became like extended family members to each other.
Evelyn is survived by her son Michael Orridge, her daughter Karen Orridge, three
grandchildren Arielle Spurley (Nicholas), Markus Orridge, and Candice Orridge, and three great-
grandchildren Kamiya Orridge, Kamari Orridge-Hill, and Ryan Spurley. She leaves her brothers and
sisters, William Rose (Mary), Rosemary Rose, Robert Rose (Constance), and Josephine.
Although you may be gone...you will never be forgotten. We will speak your name often...and
we will close our eyes and smile...because you lived!
