Felicita Buchheister Clagett Powers

November 23, 1915 — November 19, 2010

Felicita Buchheister Clagett Powers died peacefully at her home in Upper Marlboro, MD three days shy of her 95th birthday. She lived her entire life in Upper Marlboro. She had a wonderful and memorable childhood growing up at “Chelsea” – a working tobacco farm outside of the town – with her four older brothers, an older sister and parents who had emigrated from Germany in the early 1900’s. At an early age, she married local attorney, T. Van Clagett, Jr. They had four sons, Thomas Van Clagett, III, Robert Y. Clagett, G. Patrick Clagett and Stephen L. Clagett. She became a widow in 1963 and later married Court of Special Appeals Judge Jerry Powers who died in 1981.\nShe was a devoted and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Forest Garden Club and the Marlborough Hunt Club. She was a well respected artist specializing in water colors. She painted well into her 90’s. Many of her paintings of tobacco barns and scenes of early Upper Marlboro adorn the walls of local banks, attorneys and judges. \nPredeceasing her in April of this year was her son Tommy. Surviving her are sons Robert Y. Clagett, Esq. of Upper Marlboro, Dr. Patrick Clagett of Dallas, Texas, Judge Stephen L. Clagett of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.\nIn lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to either St Mary’s Of The Assumption Catholic Church, 14908 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, 20772 or Hospice Of The Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, Maryland, 21401.
