Floyd Elwood Tutwiler

October 12, 1930 — April 23, 2024

Floyd Elwood Tutwiler (TUT), aged 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at his home in Prince Frederick, MD. Born on October 12th, 1930, in Staunton, VA, he was the son of the late Floyd Mckenzie and Roxie Annamarie (Pennington) Tutwiler. He was married to the late Bettie McCune Tutwiler (Betty) on April 8th, 1952.

Floyd enlisted with the Army National Guard in 1956 - 1959. Before his military service, he fell in love with the game of golf. One of his most memorable accomplishments on the golf course was when he hit his first hole-in-one at Gypsy Hill Park. He even caddied for PGA Pro, Sam Snead. Floyd attended college at Randolph-Macon. After college, he was offered a job at Montgomery Ward and worked there for over 30 years. When he wasn’t working, playing golf, or boating, he relished planning parties for his family, coworkers, friends, and neighbors. He mastered the craft of woodworking by building furniture and even built two homes for his family.

Floyd's greatest joy in life was his family. He loved watching them play sports. When he couldn’t make the games, family would always send him pictures and videos which he truly enjoyed. Floyd was an avid waterman. He loved the water and had a passion for crabbing and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed teaching the art of crabbing and showing off his crab-catching contraptions. After a long day on the water, he would always invite people over for a crab feast and tell stories of his adventures. Floyd was no stranger to traveling in his RV. It was his home away from home, especially in the winter months. He loved visiting new campgrounds and traveling through Florida with his wife Bettie.

Floyd is survived by his children, daughters Pat Bauer and Donna Bowling (husband Rex), and his sons Tom Tutwiler (wife Tia), Tony Tutwiler (wife Suzanne), and Tim Tutwiler. Floyd also had 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home Chapel.
