A long time resident of Maryland, Frances K. McAllister passed 19 September 2017 at home. The second of two daughters, she was born 10 March 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. James (Jimmie) Jones in Springfield, Massachusetts. Following graduation from Classical High School, Frances worked at a munitions factory in support of the WWII effort and eventually moved to Washington, D.C. where she attended Howard University graduating with a bachelors degree in Liberal Arts. Frances also completed graduate work at Catholic University in Library Science. During her career, Frances worked for Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Library of Congress, Congressional Research Service retiring in 1990. After retirement she continued to work part-time for the ARC of Prince Georges County, MD. She was married for twenty three years to Dr. Winston K. McAllister until his death in July, 1976. Frances enjoyed travelling, cooking for family and friends, reading a good novel, entertaining friends, classical and blue grass music, boating on the Chesapeake Bay and cream of crab soup. An enthusiastic patron of the arts, she was an accomplished pianist, participated in and supported numerous theatre productions sponsored by the Prince Georges County Community College and enjoyed trips to the National Gallery of Art. Passionate about her causes, Frances gave generously of her time and resources to the Humane Society, World Wildlife Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. She also established a Howard University Scholarship Fund for deserving students. Frances was a devoted member of the Christian Science Church, Adelphi, MD. She is survived by daughter Katheen (Daniel) and son Winston; a host of extended family and friends. Her zest for life, kind spirit, exuberance and selflessness will be eternally missed.
