Beloved husband Frank Edward Smutniak, age 86, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD. Frank was born on April 14, 1930 in Whiting, Indiana to the late John and Theresa (nee Baliga) Smutniak. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1949 and then enrolled at the University of Nebraska. He interrupted his studies to serve in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He received his BS in Mathematics and Science in 1957, the same year he married the love of his life, Lorraine Rydziewski. After working as a high school math teacher at the University of Nebraska High School, he joined the Standard Oil Company of Indiana in the Chicago area. After the birth of their daughter, the family moved to the Washington, DC area in 1963 where Frank went to work for the Central Intelligence Agency. Frank and Lorraine continued to complete their family with two sons in District Heights, Maryland. In 1975 the family moved to Calvert County (Dunkirk) where Frank resided until his death. Frank always put his family first. After retiring, Frank enjoyed spending time with his wife, planting and caring for the trees in his yard and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He took up oil painting and became an avid poker player. Frank is survived by daughter Diane M. (Greg) Kedge of Centreville, Virginia; son Frank S. (Susan Cross) Smutniak of Lawrence, Kansas; son John J. Smutniak of Austin, Texas; sister Margaret Pilarcik of Whiting, Indiana; brother Edward Smutniak of Whiting, Indiana; brother James Smutniak of Lowell, Indiana; and four grandchildren, Olivia and Cecilia Smutniak and Nicholas and Corinne Kedge.
