Gail Marie Halt

December 27, 1952 — April 4, 2016

Gail Marie Halt, 63, returned to her heavenly home on April 4th, 2016 after a long and courageous fight with breast cancer. Her undying devotion to her family and friends, along with her firm belief in God supported and comforted her during her struggle and ultimately gave her everlasting peace. Gail was born to the late Harold Whitt and Marie Whitt, 94, on December 27, 1952. She worked at a local bank while attending University of Maryland where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Gail graduated in 1973 with a degree in criminology. She continued to work in the banking industry as a construction lender for a number of years until she retired in 2003. Gail was blessed with a loving family. She married her soul mate whom she met in high school, Steven Raymond Halt, on April 21, 1974 in Oxon Hill, MD. Shortly after their ceremony, they gave birth to their first daughter, Gina Beavers, followed by the birth of their identical twins, Kristi Burns and Amber Vickers. Together they raised all three of their children with patience, discipline, and humor. Gail and Steve taught them to be responsible, independent, humble, strong, and thoughtful while remembering to enjoy life to the fullest. Gail had a heart of gold; family and friends were her passion and delight. She was gentle and loving and always took the time to listen, offer advice, or lend a helping hand. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, golfing, vacationing with Steve and hanging out at the beach with her children and grandchildren. When diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2013, she remained dedicated to her family and friends and in her will to fight her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is no longer in pain and is finally at peace. Gail is survived by her husband, Steve; her mother, Marie; her brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Lisa; her daughters Gina, Kristi and Amber; and her adoring grandchildren Shayla, Alyssa, Marissa, Ezra, Addison and Avery. She is preceded in death by her father, Harold. Gail also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
