Gayle Angela Thomas-Powell (affectionally known to family as Gaye) was born in
Washington, DC on May 15, 1967 to the late Sarah Marie Thomas. She was
youngest of three girls. She and Raymond Powell were married on May 14, 2004.
On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, she was called to be with her Lord and Savior.
Gayle was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Landover Maryland,
on November 18, 2003.
Gayle attended Charles and Prince George’s County Schools and earned an
Associate of Arts and Sciences from Prince George’s Community College in May
2014. She was most recently employed with the U.S. Agency for International
Development in Washington, D.C. as a Program/Management Analyst. During her
career she was also employed with Chemonics International and the U.S.
Department of the Interior. Gayle was an affectionate and giving person always
helping others when she saw a need. She had a special devotion to her sisters and
nephew. She demonstrated love not only with words but through her actions. She
radiated kindness and compassion for everyone she met and poured herself into
everything that she did.
Gayle had a special talent for planning and organizing events. She especially
enjoyed planning the Thomas Family Reunions. She had a strong interest in
researching and collecting information on the Thomas family history and sharing
the information with her family. Gayle and Raymond enjoyed taking annual road
trips to Virginia Beach. Gayle and Raymond together meant cheer and laughter.
She specialized her gift giving by putting her thoughts and heart into every gift and
making them personal. She most recently gifted photo books of precious memories
for Christmas.
Gayle was preceded in death by her mother Sarah Marie Thomas, grand-parents,
Samuel and Sarah Thomas (Posey), uncles, Leroy, George, William and Steve;
aunts Zelder Mae Swailes, Alice Swann, Florine Jackson, Pauline and Romaine
Simms. Left to cherish fond memories of her love and devotion are her supportive
and loving husband. Raymond Powell, two sisters Kimberly Thomas and Tina
Pervine, nephew Karl Pervine, Guardian-Mom Sandra Williams, God-children,
Tajaye Williams and Anya Williams, sister-cousins Kalese Williams and Faith
Thomas, brother-cousins Gordon, Leroy, Randy, Bryant Thomas and Jeffrey
Williams Jr., two step-children, Raymond Jr., and Rochelle and the Powell family,
life-long cousin best-friend forever, Tammy Washington-Riley, and many relatives
and friends.
