George “Big Poppa” Reid On June 3,2020 God took his beloved son, George Washington Reid (SMSgt Retired), home. He was born February 22, 1939 to the late Henry and Irine Reid and was a native of Shelby, NC. He is survived by his wife Elha Reid and from this union the birth of Destin Reid and stepson Robby. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by wife Mary Reid of 43 years and from this union were the births of Dawn Reid of District Heights, MD., Angela Morrow (Vincent) of Laurel MD, George W. Reid (Laurie) of Waldorf, MD, Richard Reid (Linda) of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Anthony Reid (Katie), Lyle Morrow, Amber Morrow, Brandon, Brittany and Brianna Reid; great grandchildren Leah and Landon Matthews, Amaya and Anthony Jr. Sister Edna Laney of Shelby, NC as well as many friends and relatives and awaiting in the kingdom his siblings Samuel, Henry “June”, Charlie, Lillie, Ulady and great grandson Baby Noah. As a youngman, he entered the United States Air Force in 1960 and served 28 years. While in the Air Force he traveled with his family to places such as England, Greece, Spain, Arizona, Nebraska and several other overseas assignments until retirement as a SMSgt at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, DC. After retirement he went onto working in the Pentagon, Fort Myer Commissary and his final retirement as a Prince George’s County bus driver. George enjoyed playing basketball and loved all sports especially his Philadelphia Eagles. He was active in his children’s and grandchildren’s sports leagues. He was a very dependable, loving gentle, family man. Mr. Reid will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
