Gerald Wayne Mahdik of Prince Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023, at the age of 88. Gerald was born August 21, 1934, in Racine, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Andrew and Stephanie Mahdik of California. He is also preceded in death by his late wife Shirley May Mahdik. He is survived by his children Beverly (Rick) Shefstad, Janice (Al) Kleuver, and Julie Mahdik, two grandchildren, Steven (Cherie) Kleuver and Amanda Adams and two great grandchildren Caroline and Theodore Kleuver.
When he was one years old his parents hitch hiked from Wisconsin and settled in San Francisco, California where he grew up. He graduated from Mission high school in 1952 where he met his future wife, Shirley whom he married on December 31, 1954.
Gerald served in the U.S. Airforce stateside during the Korean war at March AFB. After serving time in the Airforce, he began his federal government career with the FAA. In 1969 the family moved to the D.C. area to further his career. He held various positions including International Aviation Technical Assistance Manager, a National Program Manager for Engineer & Technician Training, and an Area Engineer & Technician Training Officer. He retired from the federal government at the age of 48 but continued to do consulting work with the FAA. Gerald never fully retired, he stayed involved in business opportunities up until his death.
Gerald and his wife were avid bowlers for more than 30 years, they also played in mixed softball leagues together. He also enjoyed reading, watching sports, and architecture. His biggest interest was family. He formed close relationships with his wife’s side of the family including the Garcia, Green, and Zoerb families. Gerald lived in the Pinefield neighborhood of Charles County for over 40 years where again he developed many lifelong friendships. He was loved very much by his family and friends and will be missed more than we can express.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Thursdays, August 10, 2023 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
