Gerald “Bootsie" Garner Windsor, 87, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland passed away peacefully in Arlington, Virginia on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Bootsie was born in Washington, DC on February 14, 1936, to John Everett and Clara Estelle (Ferguson) Windsor. Raised on a farm, he always believed that would be his profession until he was drafted into the Army in 1958 and later met his wife, Barbara.
Bootsie met Barbara Jean Crooke, the love of his life, through her sister Jeanette and were married on April 7, 1962. They welcomed two sons: Gerald Michael in April 1963 and Steven Lee in August 1964 and the family moved to Upper Marlboro, which they called home until 2014. Bootsie worked 33 years at Safeway’s warehouse in Largo, Maryland as a forklift operator before retiring in 1996. Prior to his wife’s death, he enjoyed dining at Traders, playing the lottery, and taking trips to Atlantic City with her. After she passed, Bootsie continued his dining tradition with his sons, frequenting Panera, Cracker Barrel and IHOP multiple times per week.
As fulfilled as his life was, nothing meant more to him than family. Surviving is his son Steven Windsor, daughter-in-law Debbie, 5 grandchildren: Andrew Windsor (Amanda), Amanda Rosen (Drew) Alex Windsor, Katelyn Windsor & Marissa Diaz (Devante), 2 great-grandchildren: Olivia & Cole, and 4 siblings: Albert Windsor (Mary), Lorraine Cooke, Cecil Bussard (Lee) & Clara Shaver (Kenny). Preceding him in death was his devoted wife Barbara, his son Gerald Michael, his father Everette and mother Clara, and brothers Everett & Lawrence.
A visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Tuesday, September 26th from 10:00 am – 11:30 am where a Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 in the Funeral Home Chapel.
