Geraldine Gloria Smith graced this world with her presence on November 1, 1949. She was the fourth child born to Thelma and the late Othor Nichols. Geraldine accepted Christ at an early age and was a member at The Sanctuary at Kingdom Square. Her education began in the Caroline County Public School System, Denton, Maryland. Upon completion of high school, she attended Fleet Business School, Annapolis, MD. She later attended Bowie State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and also attended the graduate school. Geraldine later became employed at the Department of Education- Post Secondary Branch, as an Education Program Specialist in Washington, DC. There, she became a supervisor of Federal Trio Programs servicing over 1,700 projects. Other programs under her tutelage were: Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math/Science, Veterans, Talent Search, and the Educational Opportunity Center. She also presented at several conferences and workshops. In addition, she was a contracting officer. Upon leaving that branch of government, she worked as a contract specialist until her retirement. She enjoyed life and had a gentle spirit. Geraldine was always offering a helping hand to those in need. She volunteered for Daughter for the Day in the Maryland and Washington, DC area. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was preceded in death by her father, Othor Nichols, and her sister, Josephine Walters. She loved her family, friends and her church. We loved her, too. She was the “Rock” of the family. Geraldine will always be in the hearts and minds of those she left when she suddenly took flight on May 12, 2016. To preserve her memory are: two beautiful daughters, Stanika and Kira; one granddaughter, Chadsity; one grandson, Shawn; mother, Thelma Nichols; siblings, Shirley (Lester), Pauline, Violet, Othor, Perry, Glenda, Elmarie (Bob), Maurice, Donald (Gloria), Patricia (Seaford) and Mark; aunts, Bishop Esther Murray, Violeece (Ernest), Rosalie, Frances, Phyllis (Jerome); uncles, Fred and Donald; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
