On the morning of April 17, 2022, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital, God saw that the job of his beloved daughter, Gloria Lee Hammond was done.  He called her home to her heavenly rest.

Gloria, the daughter of the late William Frederick Yates and Laura Alberta Marshall Yates Robinson.  She was born in Washington, District of Columbia on January 21, 1944.  Gloria committed her life to Christ, who was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and then later became a faithful member of Dupont Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  Gloria developed a love for reading.  She enjoyed playing cards, family games night and spending time with her grandkids.  She was educated in the District of Columbia Public School system.  She furthered her education at Prince George’s Community College where she received her Associates degree in Business Administration.

With her family, she resided in the Washington Metropolitan area throughout her life.  Gloria enjoyed hosting social gatherings and enjoyed meeting people.

She retired at the age of 62 from the Library of Congress.  Even after retirement, she joined the Department of Environmental Protection Agency's program for Seniors where she worked for eight years.

She met the love of her life as a teenager at the Parkside Housing Development, who in 1968 married Lloyd T. Hammond, whose devotion to her was obvious to all, as he stood by her side in sickness and in health.  She had three children:  Keith L. Monroe, Lloyd J. Hammond, and Felicia D. Hammond.

Gloria had a way of making you feel like family.  Her love for people and good conversation always made for a good time!
