Gwendolyn Bergman Jacobsen age 73 of Fort Washington MD passed away peacefully
on April 9 2023 at her daughters residence surrounded by family.
Gwendolyn was born June 23,1949 in Greensburg Pennsylvania to Robert Allen
Bergman and Jane Ann (Schneider) Bergman. She grew up in Irwin, Pennsylvania with her
siblings (4 brothers and 2 sisters). She graduated from Norwin High School in 1967. Shortly
after graduation she joined the U.S. Army in October 1967. Gwendolyn served in the U.S. Army
for two years and was honorably discharged in 1969. She moved to Suitland MD in the early
1970’s to accept a job offer at the Census Bureau. On July 5, 1975 Gwendolyn married Vernon
Gilbert Jacobsen and had two children Vernon Jr and Jane Anne. She and her husband attended
Oxon Hill Lutheran Church for many years. Gwendolyn retired from the Census Bureau in 2005.
Gwendolyn loved to travel and traveled the midwest with her husband Vernon Sr after her
retirement. She loved music, watching movies and spending time with her family and loved
ones. She had a big heart and would give all she could to anyone who was in need. She will be
greatly missed.
Gwendolyn is survived by her two children Vernon Jr., Jane (Jeremy); brothers and
sisters include Robert (Colleen), Richard, Leslie, Margaret (Barry), Albert, Kevin (Lori) and
many nieces and nephews. Grandchildren include Brandon (Anna), Vernon III, Dylan, Eva,
Joshua, Christian, Abigail ( Nicholas) great grandson Grayson, Rebekah, David, and Jacob.
She also has two step children Susan( Wayne), Jeff ( Suzie) and their children which she
counted as her grandchildren; Christina, Shannon, Aaron, Jessica, Megan, Nicole , Maria, Colleen
and Shannon and many more great grandchildren. She is survived and loved by so many.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Vernon Gilbert Jacobsen
Sr., parents Robert Allen Bergman and Jane Ann Bergman.
Visitation will be held 10:00am - 12:00 pm Friday, May 5, at Lee Funeral Home, Clinton MD. Service will follow at 12:00
pm at Lee Funeral Home, Inc. 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd., Clinton MD 20735. Burial will be at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
