Hans Warffemius

Hans Warffemius, 89,\n \n \n \nof Brandywine, MD passed away on Wednesday April 4, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Washington, DC. Born in Washington, DC he was a son of the late Theodore F. and Eleanor A. (Green) Warffemius. He was a long time resident of Brandywine MD having moved there at the age of six. He was a graduate of Surattsville High School, Class of 1939. He was married to Kate E. (Gross) Warffemius on October 25, 1942. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he received the Purple Heart.\n \n \n \nHans retired from the US Army Civil Corps. of Engineers, Fort Belvoir, VA in 1980 after 30 years of service. He was a Charter Member of VFW Post 9376 of Clinton, MD, a member of American Legion Post 222 of Brandywine, MD, Moose Lodge 26 of Clinton, MD, DAV Post 36 of White Plains, MD, a Charter Sponsor member of BSA Troop 704, as well as a Life Member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics, Camp Springs Council #16 and the Cheltenham United Methodist Church.\n \n \n \nHe enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in his garden, fishing the Chesapeake Bay, and giving help and support to his fellow veterans and his church family. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They brought much joy and happiness into his life.\n \n \n \nHe leaves behind to cherish his memory along with his wife Kate a daughter Juanita L. Lee (James) of Ormond Beach, FL, a son Wendell T. Warffemius(Robin) of Brandywine, MD, seven grandchildren Glenn Lee (Maeta) of Honey Grove, TX, Tonya M. Riley (Hugh) of Newan, GA, Wendell T. Warffemius Jr. of Brandywine, MD, Ellen Kate Foster (Jeremy) of Waldorf, MD, Rebecka L. Canterbury (Jason) of Hughesville, MD, Thomas A. Warffemius of LaPlata, MD, and Tonya R. Watts of Germantown, MD, as well as nine great grandchildren, a sister Eleanor Boberg of Fountain Valley CA, one nephew, an ex daughter-in-law Jennifer L. Warffemius of LaPlata, MD, and several cousins and relatives in Holland. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Carl Boberg.\n \n \n \nFriends may call on Thursday April 12, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00PM at Lee Funeral Home, Branch Ave. and Coventary Way, Clinton, MD. A funeral service will be held on Friday April 13, 2012 at 10:00AM in Lee Funeral Home chapel officiated by Rev. Michael Beiber. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions in his name may be made to the Cheltenham United Methodist Church, P.O.
