Herman Lee Burroughs

Herman was born on October 6, 1930 in Washington, North Carolina to hardworking parents, Boss Timothy and Carrie Burroughs. He had five brothers: Tom; Harold; William; Boss Timothy, Jr.; and Bobby. He also had three sisters: Carol; Bessie; and Barbara Ann. He adored is family, cherishing his Mom and Sisters, and fighting with his Brothers. After graduating High School in Morehead City, NC, he enlisted in the Air Force. He worked as a Photographer, saving many of his favorite shots, which are proudly displayed by daughter. While stationed in Paris, France he met the love of his life, Jacqueline. She was taking English lessons, and he was taking French - by the same instructor. During one appointment that crossed, cupid struck. They married in August of 1962. In 1964, they welcomed their first child Michael. \n It was also during this time that Herman proudly served in both the Korean and Vet Nam wars. In 1971, the family was stationed in Germany, where they welcomed their daughter, Linda. The family enjoyed many adventures in Europe, and was later stationed in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1976, Herman retired from the Air Force and moved the family to Washington, DC to work for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). This was a new and exciting challenge for Herman that he enjoyed immensely. \nHowever, in 1982, Herman lost his wife, Jacqueline, to a long illness. Herman never fully recovered from this loss, missing her every day. In 1994 Herman moved back to his home state of North Carolina. Herman moved into a little home on the beach which was a perfect fit for him. Herman had many interests, but his true passion was fishing. He was a master at crossword puzzles. He loved to watch a great game on television, especially baseball. He grew a garden with tomatoes and peppers, making the hottest salsa ever known to mankind. He also loved bird watching, having many bird feeders for all types birds. His only nemesis, the squirrels who tried to rob his bird feeders!\n In 1998, Herman lost his son Michael, which left him with a huge hole in his heart to fill. \n Herman's family was blessed with two new members, In 2001 Ava his first grandchild was born. In 2005 his first grandson Julian was born. He was also a proud and generous Granddaddy. While he was suffering from Alzheimer's it made it hard to recognize many of his friends and family members, but he always knew Ava and Julian. His face and eyes would light up when he saw them! \n Alzheimer's and other serious ailments were a constant battle. These events brought him to July 2, 2010 where in Morehead City, his battle ended, and he was reunited with his wife and son. He is survived by his daughter, Linda; Son-In-Law, Eric; Granddaughter, Ava; Grandson, Julian; Sisters, Carol, Bessie, and Barbara Ann; Brother, Bobby; and many Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.
