Herman William Spearman

June 29, 1929 — September 20, 2016

Mr Herman William Spearman, the son of the late Pearlie Douglas Spearman and Stella Spearman was born in Linden, North Carolina on June 29, 1929. He departed this life on September 20, 2016 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He showed remarkable strength and courage in his time of need and always displayed great love and devotion to those he came in close contact with. Herman joined the Army on August 22, 1952 and served many roles to include Logistics Supply and piloted helicopters. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and served honorably until he retired on November 30, 1985 at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4). Some of his decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, five Vietnam Service Medals, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Medal and a host of others. He married the love of his life, Lillian McNeill on October 8, 1954 and the perfect match was made! This union was blessed with five children. The youngest child, Eric Tyrone Spearman, preceded him in death. Herman was a kind soul and an unselfish person - always thinking of others first. He loved his family with all his heart and always saw the good in everyone. He has truly touched so many lives. His gracefulness, kindness and generosity will be greatly missed. Herman was a very spiritual person and was a member of Chapel One at Joint Base Andrews which he attended on a regular basis until he became ill. He showed remarkable strength and courage in his time of need and always displayed great love and devotion to those who came in close contact with him. But now Herman is in God's hands and God makes no mistakes. He knows what he is doing. So don't cry for Herman, because he wouldn't want you to cry. Be happy because he is now in a place where many of us wish we were. Herman leaves behind to cherish and honor his memory his loving wife Lillian Spearman of Clinton, Maryland; three sons Herman Curtis Spearman of Clinton, Maryland, Jerome F. Spearman (Mark) from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Reginald Smith (Kim) of Virginia; two daughters Gloria (Terrence) Mackie from Spring Lake, North Carolina and Gwendolyn Spearman of Clinton, Maryland; two grandchildren Jovan Mackie and Roxann Spearman; four great grandchildren Cjeana Johnson, Terrence Mackie, Willa Spearman and Makaila Mackie; four sisters Mary Lillie, Lena, Cora, Pauline as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
