Hilda D. Brown, age 87, of Clinton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2020; surrounded by her family, after a short hospital stay at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Born on June 26, 1932 in Cape Charles, Virginia to the late Charlie and Estella Brickhouse. The oldest of two children. Reading books, magazines, newspapers, and writing in her daily diary were joys for her. Going shopping [especially during Christmas] at area stores and malls were highlight moments for her. You could see the glow in her eyes from moments to hours moving place to place. Oysters, fish and her favorite, crabs were dining out foods she always looked forward to eating. As a consummate homemaker and seamstress, hours were spent sitting in her sewing room. One of her favorite out-of-home activities was traveling as often as her health would allow. She attended Northampton County High School before furthering her education at Prince George's Community College. From there she completed a Certificate in Early Childhood Education as well as a Real Estate course. Coming from humble beginnings emerged strong family values on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. These family roots would prove to be one of her most valued assets throughout life. She possessed an inner strength and determination that propelled her through life's endeavors and challenges. This determination and fortitude was very evident as she faced medical challenges toward the end of life. For eighty years she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, while she was a member of the Bethel AME Church in Eastville, Virginia. She was a 'soldier'. She was 'confident'. She was 'peaceful' and 'fearless'. She was in the presence of 'God'. She is preceded in death by her husband; James Brown, her brother; Charles Edward Brickhouse, and her eldest daughter; Maria Delores Trower. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Larry Cornell Trower (Atlener Trower), Estella Lorraine Trower, and Janet Denice Taylor-Lawson(Martin Lawson), grandchildren, great grandchildren, and special relatives and friends.
