Horace Hensley

Horace Eugene Hensley, 85, resident of Temple Hills since 1976, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025. Born Feb. 23, 1940, in Gate City, VA, to the late Gaines and Alpha Hensley. He is survived by his three children; son, Tony A. Hensley and wife Donna of Upper Marlboro, MD; daughters, Lisa D. Hensley-Yesbek of Temple Hills, MD and Tammy R. Richards and husband Mike of Clements, MD; sister Judy Harper and husband Tootie of Hiltons, VA; five grandchildren, Nicholas Hensley-Yesbek, Jessica Hensley and wife Lindsey, Kristin Amato and husband Colin, Dylan and Haley Richards; two great-grandchildren, Parker and Ellie Amato, along with multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Patricia “Clara” Hensley; sister Betty Mumpower and husband Luke; brothers Paul Greene and wife Joyce, Carroll Hensley, John Hensley and wife Wilhelmina; nephew Jeffrey Hensley. He received his Master’s in Accounting from University of TN in 1966, retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Major in 1981 after 24 years of service, and was proudest of two accomplishments in his life: marrying his wife Clara and being a Master Mason, 32 Degree Scottish Rite and Shriner. Both had given him great joy during his life. God has lost a soldier on earth but gained one by his side. He was loved by all who knew him. The family will receive family and friends at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road Clinton, MD 20735 on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 1pm–3pm with services starting at 3pm. Interment will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
