Hugh James Folk was born on June 22, 1955, to Harry Folk and the late Viola Harris. Our Heavenly Father called him to his eternal home on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from the Collingswood REHAB & Healthcare Center in Rockville, MD.
Hugh was affectionately known as Baby Boy. He gave his life to Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church in Varnville, S.C. He worked hard as a child raking leaves, mowing lawns, and eventually working at Hampton General Hospital. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1973. Then decided to join the U.S. Army. He served at Ft. Jackson, SC, Ft Hood, Texas, Ft. Bragg, N.C. and two overseas tours in West Germany. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Regular Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal , Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Over-seas Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon. He met the woman of his dreams Specialist Marie Gwynn also a military member at Ft. Bragg. They were married for 43 years and blessed with two sons. He was medically retired due to health complications in 1983. He retired again from the National Institutes of Health in 2013. He enjoyed studying scriptures, setting up his model train sets, working in the yard, watching Andy Griffin, Westerns, and Sports.
He was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents , Deacon Edgar and Jarean Folk, Mother Viola Harris, sister Cathy Harris, and sister Vivian Folk Cooper.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: Wife Marie (Upper Marlboro, MD) sons Timothy and Thomas, (MD), Deacon Harry and Evangelist Mary Folk, (Hampton, SC), Brothers Gregory Folk (Luthmae) (Hampton, SC, Rickie Folk (Savannah, GA, Phillip Harris (Patricia) Blythewood, SC Michael Folk (Victoria) Hampton, SC, Laurissa (Myron) Dobson of Grovetown, GA, Joanne Fulk (Hartford, CT),Gail Fulk (Bristol, CT), Annette Fulk (Hartford, CT), Jackie Noyan (Trevor) Bloomfield, CT, Ruth Perry (Ron) Simsbury, CT, Joyce Tyrrell (Dexter) NY, Juanita Buchanan (Bristol, CT), Cathy Harris (Springfield, MA), Pamela Folk-Bowman (Quint) Orange Park, FL, Edna Rae McQuire (Varnville, S.C) and a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
