Irma Lucille Herbert, 88, of Churchton, MD, formerly of S.E. Washington, DC died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in La Plata, MD. Born January 6, 1923 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Albert McKinley Owens and the late Susan Amanda Owens.\nMrs. Herbert was a homemaker and mother of nine. She loved to sew, paint ceramics and make Christmas ornaments from eggs. She collected Department 56 houses and miniatures for her Christmas village. She took great pleasure in gardening, winning "prettiest yard" awards in her S.E. neighborhood.\nIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Cleveland Herbert; her infant daughter, Gloria Jean Herbert; daughter, Linda Bonan; and sister Eula Crist.\nShe is survived by her daughters, Judith M. Mayle of La Plata, MD; Susan G. TerBush of Sevierville, TN; and Ann L. Barnhart (John) of Katy, TX; sons, John C. Herbert of Churchton, MD, Lee G. Herbert and Michael D. Herbert of Lothian, MD; and Donald L. Herbert of Huntingtown, MD. Sisters, Mary Simpson (Jim), of Manassas, VA; and A. Gene Miller of Fort Washington, MD. Grandchildren, Valerie Chambers, Vicky Mayle-Cooksey, Scott Mayle, Wendy Burroughs, Glenn Mayle, John Bonan, Michael Bonan, Stephen Bonan, Lisa Perkins, Jeff Nesbit, Sean TerBush, Dustin Herbert and Wesley Herbert; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.\nVisitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, Owings, MD where a service will be held on at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Pastor Mark Roberson will officiate. Interment will take place at Washington National Cemetery, Suitland, MD at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
