Jada Harris, a devoted Christian, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and educator, peacefully entered the arms of her Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the age of 56 after she valiantly mastered living with cancer for 13 years.
Born on Robins Air Force Base in Georgia to Johnnie and Janice Neal, Jada's childhood in Macon was marked by a deep faith, exceptional intellect, and a tireless work ethic that would hallmark her remarkable life. A devout member of the Church of God of Prophecy from an early age and Clinton Grace Church in adulthood, Jada's unwavering faith guided her every step and radiated through her interactions with others.
Jada's passion for teaching emerged during her high school years, where she led the youth ministry at her local church and served as a mentor and counselor at Church Youth Camp Echeconnee. A natural leader, she excelled academically, serving as the State Beta Club president and the debate club president at Southwest High School. Jada continued her academic pursuits at Wesleyan College, earning a degree in science education, followed by a Master's in Education from Regent University.
Jada's professional journey in education spanned over three decades and exemplified her commitment to nurturing young minds and instilling Christian values. She began her career as a middle school science teacher at Ballard-Hudson in Macon, Georgia, before relocating to Maryland with her family in 2001. At Clinton Grace Christian School, she initially served as a middle school science teacher, later ascending to the position of Director of Education and Discipline. Known for her sharp intellect, strong work ethic, and unwavering dedication, Jada garnered the respect and admiration of colleagues, students, and parents alike. She remained steadfast in her dedication to being an educator throughout her treatments and ministered through her daily interactions in her position at the school.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jada was first and foremost a devoted wife to her husband of 31 years, Michael Harris, and a loving mother to their five children: Anthony, Ashley, Anna, Zachary, and Jeffrey. The arrival of her grandson, Caelum, brought immeasurable joy to her life. Family was at the heart of Jada's world, and she treasured every moment spent with loved ones.
Jada looked for God in every moment and she knew how to point out his presence in small and large moments. She looked for his plan in every student that walked through the hallway of the school, his joy in the laughter of her children as they played freeze tag at dusk, his strength in how hard her family worked to build a business and his love in the smile of her husband as they worked in the garden.
Jada's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her legacy of faith, strength, and compassion will forever inspire all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, parents, brother, children, and grandson. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless students whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Clinton Grace Christian School, where a scholarship will be established in Jada's memory to continue her life's work of empowering young minds and nurturing Christian values.
A memorial service to celebrate Jada's remarkable life and legacy will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 AM at Clinton Grace Church at 6501 Surratts Rd, Clinton, MD.
Space at the service is extremely limited. In lieu of attendance, the family kindly requests that those who wish to honor Jada's memory consider making a donation to the Clinton Grace Christian School scholarship fund established in her name. This scholarship will continue Jada's passion for education by supporting aspiring students in their pursuit of knowledge and faith-filled lives.
