James Brown

December 17, 1927 — September 22, 2015

James Brown, was born on December 17, 1927 in Greene County, North Carolina. He was the younger of two sons to the late Rosetta Jones Brown and Luke Brown. He was called to celebrate eternal life on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He graduated from high school in North Carolina and went on to complete two years of community college while in the military. On April 1, 1962, he was joined in Holy Matrimony with Hilda Delores Brickhouse and he became a devoted father of four children, Maria Delores, Larry Cornell, Estella Lorraine and Janet Denise. Both remained married and devoted for 54 years. Coming from a humble beginning, he joined the United States Army in 1948 and transferred to the United States Airforce in 1951. He retired from the United States Airforce in 1968. Following military service he accepted a position at the Old Executive Office. This led to an appointment at the White House as Director of Procurement. There he earned numerous awards for his outstanding performance from the Office of The President and The Vice President of The United States. After transitioning from the White House Administration, he continued his career at the Departments of Agriculture, Labor, and Health, Education, and Welfare. He retired from federal duties in the late 80s. James, also known as Jim by some, made many friends. Often he was high spirited, joked, and laughed with neighbors. His hobbies included bowling when physically able, enjoying football on TV, and reading the latest in newspapers. A highlight of his day was playing with Buttons, the family dog, sitting on the deck, or being in the kitchen having breakfast with his wife. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior over 60 years ago and was a practicing Baptist. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, the late Fred Brown; his daughter, the late Maria Deloris; and his grandson, the late Darnell James Ramsey. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of fifty four years, Hilda Brown of Waldorf, MD; and his children, Larry Cornell, Estella Lorraine, Janet Denise; four grandchildren, Emanuel Cornell, LaRhonda Denise, Rolanda Estella, Anthony Lamont; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; he also leaves four first cousins and a host of special relatives and friends.
