James Elwood Gilbert Jr.

James E. Gilbert, Jr. (Moose), 69, beloved son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend passed away on Tuesday morning, December 22 in Clinton, Maryland. He was born to James Elwood Gilbert and Hilda DeVane Gilbert in New Haven, Connecticut on October 26, 1951. He retired from Amtrak’s Washington (D.C.) Terminal. James was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants. He was a member of the 1968 Connecticut State Championship West Haven High School football team. He is survived by his son James E. Gilbert, III (Jay); grandson Isaiah Gilbert (Zay); sisters Deborah Gilbert of Mesa, Arizona, Beverly Deloatch of New Haven, Connecticut and Lillie Gilbert of Gilbert, Arizona; niece Tonya (Nikki) Deloatch of New Haven, Connecticut; nephew Kenley Deloatch, Jr. of New Haven, Connecticut; cousins Janice Wilson of New Haven, Connecticut and Michelle DeVane-Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina; ex-wife Gwendolyn Gilbert and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his parents, sister Renee C. Gilbert, niece Deirdre (Dee Dee) Deloatch and Joanne Graham mother of son James E. Gilbert, III. Private arrangements.
