James Russell Newman passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20th, 2024. James, affectionately known as Russell, was born on June 29th, 1940, in La Plata, Maryland, to the late Richard and Bertha Newman. Russell was educated in the Charles County Public Schools system. He attended plumbing school for five years and obtained his master plumbing license, where he worked for 25 years before retirement. After retirement, he answered calls for small plumbing jobs, as he was very helpful and always willing to assist those in need. Russell met and married his “sweetheart”, Alice T. Newman October 1965 with whom he shared a beautiful and loving bond for over 58 years until he was called home to the Lord. Russell loved to offer his advice and wisdom to his loved ones. He loved to play and tell stories about his childhood to his kids and grandkids, oftentimes teaching life lessons, making your point when speaking and learning not to repeat yourself over and over. He enjoyed each and every moment with family, but when it was time for him to have his space, he certainly made it known! He enjoyed many years after retirement pursuing his favorite pastime of fishing, whether on the boat or along the shores of his favorite ponds. He enjoyed crabbing, hunting, and just being outside. Russell also enjoyed traveling, playing poker with his crew, and yelling at the Washington Football team! Russell cared tremendously and leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Connie, Richard (Karen), Leonard (Sherri), and James Jr. Russell was preceded in death by his son, Anthony. He leaves eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and one brother Calvin Newman. Russell leaves behind a host of family and friends. In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen, Hazel, Elaine, Marie, Bee, and Joyce. Brothers, Rudolph, Leon, Francis, Ronnie Russell will be missed by everyone that knew him.
