James Stanley Potts, age 76, of Fort Washington, MD passed away on May 30, 2021. Born on March 25, 1945 in Shawnee, OK to his late parents: John Stanley Potts and Betty Ann [Braunstein] Potts. James grew up in Silver Spring, MD. He attended the US Naval Academy '63-'67; served six years as officer on nuclear submarine, USS Thomas A. Edison. Honorably discharged in '73. Then worked at PEPCO for 33 years. Retired in 2006, VP of Environmental Health and Safety. Since the 1990s, he served on the boards of various non-profit organizations. Remembered by many as an empathetic listener who brought out the best in others and was a driver for positive, transformational change. James enjoyed doing home improvement projects, working out, playing drums, hiking and traveling; his favorite places being Sedona, AZ and Monterrey, CA. James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara R. Potts; sons: Jim and Jonathan; daughter, Angela; 6 grandchildren and 4 brothers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mildred Reed Potts. James will be remembered as a man of faith and moral integrity and was a dedicated father and husband.
