James Ross Surace

   James Ross Surace, 79, of Temple Hills, Maryland, passed peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023. He was born in Sarasota, Florida on April 3rd, 1944.

The only son of a career Air Force father, he spent his adolescence traveling the world, having lived in Japan, England, California, & Canada. An avid fixed-wing aviator, he held commercial, instrument and multi-engine designations. He also introduced his family to scuba diving, logging hundreds of hours underwater while traveling together each summer. 

   He was married to Rita, a pilot as well, for over 40 years. They have 2 sons, Brent and Bradley. 

James served his nation in the Air Force and later his community with many years at the Prince George’s County Government retiring after 20+ years as a computer technician in the local 911 center. 

   James is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Pasquale Surace.

He is survived by his faithful wife of 44 years, Rita, a crown upon his head; and sons Brent (m. Andrea) and Brad.

James was known for his strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He brought humor, warm smiles and kind words to strangers and friends. Wit, creativity, humility and generosity were hallmarks of his character and were sincerely appreciated by those in his circle. He was a man of peace, known for his patience and gentleness, always working toward a spirit of togetherness whenever possible.

  Friends and family are welcome to gather on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Clinton Grace Church, 6501 Surratts Rd., Clinton, MD 20735 from 12:00 pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm. James will be laid to rest at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham on Tuesday, September 26. 2023 at 11:15 am.
