Jeremiah “Jerry” Hayden (Sunrise: February 28, 1935~ Sunset: December 29, 2021) Jeremiah Hayden was born on February 28th, 1935 in Brown’s Town, St. Ann, in the beautiful sunny island of Jamaica to proud parents Richard Hayden and Beatrice Johnson. The third child and eldest son in a family of four brothers and six sisters, Jeremiah was a confident and loving soul. Jeremiah completed secondary education and with great ambition joined the Jamaican Constabulary Force in Kingston at the age of 24. While living in Kingston, Jeremiah married Phyllis Robinson in 1965 and welcomed the birth of four boys; Lascelles, Collin, Devon and Kevin Hayden. Jeremiah served 9 years with distinction in the Jamaican Constabulary Force, and immigrated to the United States in 1969 to seek a better life for his family. Jeremiah and Phyllis resided briefly in Bronx, New York and shortly after, reunited with their four boys and moved to their home in Passaic, New Jersey. In New Jersey, Jeremiah worked for Okonite Company and after 10 years, transitioned to Lehn & Fink Incorporated, a manufacturer of Lysol disinfectant products where he was employed for 20 years and worked his way up to a supervisor position. In 1978, Jeremiah and Phyllis welcomed Sherri Hayden, their only daughter to the family. Jeremiah retired from Lehn & Fink in 1996 at the age of 62. Shortly after, the warm sun beckoned and so Jeremiah returned to Brown’s Town, Jamaica where he would live out his remaining years in retirement, enjoying time sitting on his veranda enjoying the fresh air and sunshine and frequenting what is termed the “old man bar” where he enjoyed the company and comradery of his peers and longtime friends. Jeremiah also enjoyed visiting his family in the United States yearly, making unforgettable memories with his family filled with lots of love and laughter. His lively personality was such a delightful attraction wherever he would go. Jeremiah Hayden passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 86 years of age and is survived by his spouse Phyllis and children, Lascelles, Collin, Devon, Kevin and Sherri as well as three sisters, two brothers, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, 13 nephews, 12 nieces, other relatives and many friends.
