Joan Janette (Young) Poland “Lovie”, 79, of Camp Springs, MD, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Born and raised in Washington, DC, she retired from the General Services Administration as a Program Specialist. Beloved wife of David L. Poland for 60 years; devoted mother of Susan Stempora (Michael) of White Plains, MD and Deborah Vickers (James, Jr.) of South Riding, VA; grandmother of David Dixon (Krystal), Jimmy Vickers (Amanda), Jenna Scarborough (Michael) and Kaitlyn Vickers; great-grandmother of Olivia Scarborough, Hunter and Maddie Vickers, and Haley Irizarry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Madeline Young; brothers, Benny, John and David Young; and sisters, Katherine Garrett and Betty Ann Proulx. She was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Joan had also been an avid bowler for many years as part of the Pinbusters league in Clinton, MD.For those desiring, contributions in memory of Lovie can be made to the American Lung Association or the Hospice of Chesapeake.
