Joann Proctor

February 13, 1941 — May 24, 2023

Joann B. Proctor, 82 of Waldorf, MD passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2023 with her daughter by her side.

Joann was born to the late Herbert and Florence Wallach on February 13, 1941.  Upon her high school graduation she began her working career at the Department of Treasury in Washington DC. She worked for many years as a secretary for Cazenovia Central Schools.  Joann also enjoyed many years with the United States Postal Service as a rural route carrier in Cazenovia and Erieville NY.  She made many great friendships along her mail route and with co-workers.  To the dismay of her husband, she often came home with various animals, ducks, chickens and kittens that were gifted to her by her customers.

After retirement she relocated to Culpeper VA to care for her beloved Aunt, Lelia E. Weaver.  For a number of years she split her time between her home in Fenner NY and her family in Maryland.

Joann was a fun spirited soul who took on many passions, one of which was her family ancestry.  She was an avid researcher and prided herself on being the family historian.  Joann had no problem dragging her children and family members to cemeteries, libraries and archives in search of family plots and relatives. Joann loved books, reading, tea parties, the beach, blue ridge mountains, watching true crimes shows and NCIS (huge Gibbs fan).

Joann’s greatest love was that of her family.  She is survived by her daughters Regina of Waldorf MD and Jo Ellen (Tom) of Chesapeake Beach, MD her son Ron II (Emilee) of Fenner NY.  Her much adored grandchildren Rebecca, Logan, Taylor and Kate, along with her canine grandbabies Lulu, Millie and Gemma.  Her dear and devoted sister Esther L. Neuland of Clinton MD.  Brother in law David J. (Maryrose) Proctor and sister in law Karen Proctor Otts both of Fenner NY.  Several treasured nieces and nephews that span multi generations with whom she shared very special relationships with.  Many cousins that she was close with to include Joyce Hull, and her life long friends Wanda Hudson and Judy De Los Santos,

Joann was predeceased by her husband Ronald T. Proctor, her parents, her brother Ernest M. Wallach and sister in law Judy Wallach, sister Barbara A. Marx and brother in law Joseph Marx, nephew Dennis Marx and brother in law Francis E, Neuland.

Joann will be remembered for all the heart she shared with her family and friends.  She truly loved each one of them deeply and if you knew Joann, you knew it and felt it.  When her time came, she carried herself with dignity and strength, full of love for all those who went before her.

At her request, there will be no services, family burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, Joann requested donations be made in her honor to the Cazenova Youth Football and Cheer.  Her children will accept your donations and forward or you can mail directly to PO Box 554, Cazenovia NY 13035.
