John J. Baka of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, died on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD. He was born on January 28, 1946 in Portsmouth, NH.\n \nJohn retired from the Metropolitan Police Department and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He was an avid Redskins fan. He also enjoyed puzzles, games and family poker games.\n \nJohn is the beloved husband of Valerie L. (Place) Baka. On September 25, 2011, John and Valerie celebrated their 40th Anniversary. He is also survived by a daughter, Sherry L. Baka; brother Michael (Nancy) Baka of Brockway, PA and numerous family and friends.\n \nA memorial gathering will be held at Lee Funeral Home, Inc. Wednesday, October 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will also officiate a service Wednesday evening.\n \nIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Association of Retired Police Officers P.O.
