John (Buck) M. Barbour Jr. passed away on April 2, 2022 at the age of 86 years, surrounded by his family in his Brandywine, MD home.
He was born to John M. Barbour Sr. And Ora R. Barbour July 12, 1935 in Washington, VA where he was the second oldest of four children. After graduating from George Washington Carver high school, at the age of 16 he delivered mail until he was old enough to enlist in the United States Air Force for 28.5 years retiring honorably at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E9).
In 1965, in Fairbanks, Alaska he met the love of his life Jacquelyn. Two year later, he asked her ‘are you going to marry me or are you going home with your momma?’ The rest is history. John and Jacquelyn celebrated 54 years of marriage.
John loved God. He grew up attending First Baptist Church in Washington, VA. where he was baptized in the creek nearby. He became a deacon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Anchorage, AK. And he has been a member of First Baptist Church of Upper Marlboro since 2000.
John loved all things outdoors, gardening, fishing, and camping. His brother-in-law Joe once said ‘John can grow grass on rocks!’ When he moved to Maryland after his second retirement from the U.S. government of 16 years, he won his daughter ‘Yard of the Year’ at her townhouse. He and his wife bought their first RV in 1978 and continued camping until his health concerns would no longer allow it.
And John loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife Jacquelyn Barbour, two daughters Crystal Barbour and Kristen Jordan (Ricky), a younger sister Charlotte Freeman (James), a younger brother Theodus Barbour, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, adopted family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and his oldest sister Joan Bailey.
