John Charles Dodson

John Charles Dodson, July 28, 1953 - January 27, 2025

John was a prominent and beloved figure in Calvert County. The eldest son of Charles Halbert Dodson and Elizabeth Frances Dodson (nee O'Brien), John was raised in Olivet, MD. One of his first jobs was a player assistant at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course in Lusby, MD. Having discovered a passion for golf he soon landed a position at Twin Shields Golf Club in Dunkirk, MD where he would serve as the Head Golf Professional from 1973 until its closing in 2015. John's influence and large personality formed Twin Shields into a community where folks from all walks could enjoy golf and make lifelong friends. He was a mentor to the generations of young golfers who discovered their own passion for the game at Twin Shields.

Upon retirement in 2015 John split his time between his homes in Friendship, MD and Ft. Myers, FL where he continued to enjoy the game he loves. His love for golf was only surpassed by his love for friends and family. He truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow.

John is survived by his wife Donna Dodson (nee Jones), 4 children- Christopher Dodson, Patrick Dodson, Adam Dodson, Kristyn Stewart; and 10 grandchildren- Noah Dodson, Addison Hennick, Ronan Dodson, Haley Olive, Sophia Olive, Hadley Dodson, Fiona Dodson, Aubree "Crocodile" Cramer, Bellamy Dodson and Bill James Dodson. John is survived by his brother Kevin Dodson and predeceased by his sister Deborah Ann Arnow who passed in Nov. 2024

Services will be held at Lee Funeral Home in Owings, MD on Monday, February 17th, 2025. Visitation will be from 1-3pm, and the funeral service will be from 3-4 pm. Donations in memorium may be made to the American Cancer Society
