A memorial service for John G. Gannon, Sr. was held at Cheltenham Veteran’s cemetery on Friday, February 15, 2019. His peaceful passing was on January 31, 2019 at 4pm. Born in County Mayo, Ireland, John emigrated to New York, USA, when he was 16 years old. He found work as a carpenter; met and married Catherine Brady then moved to Washington, D.C. to raise a family. John served the U.S. Army during the Korean War being deployed to Germany. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus, and participated in the Rotary Club. He enjoyed farming and gardening, which were his roots from Ireland; along with hunting, boating and the outdoors. Using his unique perspective, he engineered many wood creations. Surviving John are his wife, Catherine; twin children Patricia and John, Jr.; youngest daughter Joan and spouse, James Davis; granddaughters Eireanne Slagle and Kelly Schroeder; brother and spouse, Seamus and Mary Gannon of Ireland; and sister, Lil Commons, also of Ireland. He was preceded in death by sister Angela, brothers Liam, Bertie, Mike, and P.J.
