John "Jack" Herbert Lewis

John Herbert Lewis, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, known as Jack to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Potomac, MD, at the age of 82. Born on May 24, 1942, in Oneonta, NY, to Wirt and Alice (Porter) Lewis, Jack lived a life marked by dedication, service, and the joy of simple pleasures.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Mary Ann (Murray) Lewis, his daughters Katherine Chai-Onn and Heather Guhl, sons-in-law Ricardo Chai-Onn and Jon Guhl, his cherished grandchildren Kieran, Riley, Justin, and Jocelyn and his siblings Jo-Ann (Lewis) Fiscina, Steve Lewis, Jim Hurley and Dave Hurley. He was predeceased by and will now be reunited with his treasured grandson, Connor Chai-Onn.

A proud veteran, Jack served as a corpsman in the United States Navy for over two decades, with valorous tours of duty in Vietnam. His commitment to his fellow servicemen was unwavering and left a lasting legacy of camaraderie and compassion. Following his military service, Jack furthered his education in paralegal studies and contributed significantly to the medical malpractice field.

Jack found solace and joy in fishing, where he could appreciate nature's beauty and tranquility. His love for crossword puzzles reflected his sharp mind and love for a good challenge. Jack's life was a testament to the strength of character, love for family, and a deep sense of patriotism. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of his family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, MD on Tuesday, March 18, 2025

Visitation: 10:00 am

Service: 11:00 am

He will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery at a date not yet determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Veterans and Children's Fund or the American Heart Association.
