John “Johnny” Haines LeHew, III, 57, of Bowie, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Johnny was born on January 12, 1964, in Cheverly, Maryland, to the late Kathleen D. LeHew (Smoyer) and the late John H. LeHew, Jr. Johnny received a letter of completion from H. Winship Wheatley in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Johnny attended a day program at the Arc of Prince George’s County up until COVID. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there with colleagues. Johnny lived his adult life with an organization (EPIC-SMVI) that provides support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to maximize their independence. Johnny was so very fond of his caretakers and especially his roommates Ruben Johnson, Francis Gannon and John McGovern of which he had lived with for many decades. He is survived by his brother William LeHew, Sr., aunts Diane Dominguez (Tony) and Joyce Smoyer (Sonny), nieces Terra Verge, Nova Johns (Jay), Amanda LeHew, Amy Tullis and Ashley Verge, nephews Thomas “TJ” Tullis Jr., and William LeHew, Jr. , great nephews Thomas Cassidy-LeHew (Shelby), Tevyn Verge-Columbia, Patrick Johns, William M. LeHew, James Johns IV and great niece Kahleen Verge-Stebbins. Johnny is preceded in death by his father John, his mother Kathleen, sister Cheryl Verge (Rene), sister-in-law Tammy Garwol and uncle Francis “Sonny” Smoyer.
