John T. Mikell

John T. Mikell, of Temple Hills, MD passed peacefully on the evening of Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the age of 61. Born in Arizona, one of four sons of Lois Ballenger Mikell and Donald Lester Mikell. John was a private man, but he was also bold, masterful, decisive and very comfortable in his own skin. He lived his life in the same manner as he died; his way. John was a United States Marine and served our country honorably for 20 years. He then went to work at Patuxent River Naval Station in St. Mary’s County where he worked from 2001 to his retirement in 2012. Johns favorite place to be was on the outside; be it cooking on the grill or fishing. He loved nature and enjoyed being with his family. He enjoyed rock music only one way; loud. But John was quietly passionate about life. He had a rock solid presence about him and could be counted on the deliver some of his dry humor. He had an incredible physical strength, an unrelenting will and a total resolve to beat his illness. He held on tight to his lifeline of hope until the very end when he quietly slipped away. Beloved husband of Patti Mikell; devoted father of Danielle Mikell (Billy Holley) of Clinton, MD, Bobby Jack Lewis III (Shelly) of MI and Dianna L. Burgess (James) of W.VA; dear brother of Don Mikell (Pat) of TX, Greg Mikell (Jenny) of FL and Matthew Mikell. Also survived by numerous grandchildren.
