John Irving Proctor, 80, of Clinton, Maryland passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023.
Irving, as he was known to many, was born on August 28, 1942, in Washington, D.C. to Thelma Thompson and Roland Proctor. As a child he stood out as an outfielder in baseball and enjoyed socializing with friends. Irving was educated in Prince George’s County Public Schools, where he graduated from Douglas High School in 1960. It was there that he met Patricia, the love of his life. Irving and Patricia were married on October 10, 1964. From that union they had three children, Deneen, Vernice and Kevin. Irving went on to become a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor for the National Park Service in the U.S. Government, where he worked for 32 years. During that time, he received several awards for outstanding work and performance. Irving retired in 1997. Irving loved his family and treated everyone who met him as such. He always greeted you with a smile and welcomed everyone into his home. Although Irving was a man of few words, he enjoyed life, laughter, and time with his family. He also loved the games of baseball and football. You would know when it was game time because he would be glued to the television.
Irving was preceded in death by his mother Thelma Thompson, his father Roland Proctor and his beloved brother Wayne Proctor.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Patricia Proctor, his children Deneen Pettis, Vernice Proctor and Kevin Proctor (Ukela). Six grandchildren: Ebony, Jerek, Devin, Brianna, Jayden, and Justin. Three great grandchildren: Kylee, Kayden, and Karsyn. One sister, Cynthia Harris (Theodore), 3 brothers, Garland Proctor (Ann), Thomas Proctor, Byron Thompson and a host of relatives and friends.
