John P. Russell, 87, loving Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather passed away Saturday morning, October 22, 2022.
John was born September 26, 1935, to the late Paul and Kathryn (Peters) Russell in Johnstown, PA. He served in the United States Air Force, worked on the railroad and found a career at AT&T where he retired after 30 years. During his time with AT&T he was most happy when he was working at NASA insuring communications were faultless during the Apollo missions.
He met Dorothy his wife when he was 17 and married her when he was 19. Together they raised 4 children in Clinton, MD.
John loved music and had a talent where he could play, by ear, just about any instrument he picked up. Bluegrass was his favorite music. He was in multiple bands throughout his life with the last being called The Mustard Seeds. He taught his wife how to play the autoharp so she could join in with the band as they traveled around to nursing homes sharing their love of music. The Russell household always had dogs and cats as John was an animal lover. He rescued many a backyard kitten and adopted them into his house. His many hobbies include, riding motorcycles, building and flying model airplanes and woodworking. He enjoyed collecting trains and watching NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy A. Russell, sons Clifford and Matthew, grandsons Dennis & Joseph, granddaughter Catherine and sister Linda.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Cathy Clark (Steven), Son, Dennis Russell (Jode), Brother, James Russell, Sister, Carol Adams, 10 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
John loved his family and will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, from 10am-12pm at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Rd. Clinton, MD 20735, followed by a funeral service at 12pm. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
