John Earl Webb

John Earl Webb, 73, of Oxon Hill, MD passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018. Born to Mary and Walter Webb in Gordonville, AL. He was one of ten children. Survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Pearson) Webb; two adoring sons, Jason E. Webb of Oxon Hill, MD and Calvin A. Webb (wife Cortnee) of Singapore; one dear grandchild, Jean-Catherine; three caring siblings, Lee Earnest Webb (Mary) of Warrensville, OH, Emma Juanita Webb of Birmingham, AL, and Cleveland Webb of Twinsburg, OH; and some of his closest friends, Jesse Bemley, Kenneth (bowling buddy), Jeff Williams (fishing friend), Robert Henry, Will Moore, and Willie Peoples. He was predeceased by six of his siblings, Clauzell Deloris Webb-Hodges, Willie James Webb, Adine Webb, Josie Elizabeth Turnage, Mattie Bell Harris, and Leora Clotman. Catherine thought of John as the “boy up the street” as the two lived in the same neighborhood during their younger years. John graduated from Wenonah High School, Birmingham, AL in 1963 and later entered the Army in November 1964. He was honorably discharged October 15, 1968. He then deployed to Antarctica for one year as a geodesist for the Palmer Station Winter Party, U.S. Army Topographic Command. He returned and married Catherine in December, 1970. They moved to the Southview Apartments in Oxon Hill, MD. In 1977, The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) named an Antarctic peak rising to 1,480 meters after John (“Webb Peak”) as a result of his services, the same year Jason was born. Calvin was born two years later. John loved gardening, bowling, fishing, traveling, working with electronics, and creating artwork. His bowling team competed Friday nights and traveled to Virginia State Bowling Tournaments every summer. He took great pride in organizing the Webb Family Reunion events held bi-annually in different cities across the country.
