John M. Wyne, Jr. (Lt. Prince George’s County Police, Retired), age 69, of Upper Marlboro, MD, died on March 30, 2015. John was born in La Plata, MD to the late Belle Louise (Robey) Farrell and William Farrell. John grew up traveling the world because his dad was in the Air Force. He returned to Maryland and attended Oxon Hill High School graduation class of 1963. He then went to University of Maryland in College Park, MD where he studied Criminal Justice. In 1965 John joined the Navy. During his 4 years of service he traveled to many different countries. His favorite parts of being in the Navy were flying and traveling. John left the Navy to join the police department. In 1970 John joined the Prince Georges County Police Department. He loved being a police officer. During his career John was a detective, part of the motorcade, S.O.D., and the juvenile department. During his 24 years on the police department he was assigned to every station in Prince Georges Countys Police Department. John was proud to be a Brother in Blue and cherished the bonds made while he was there.After John retired from the police department he went to work for the Prince Georges County School Board. While he was there he was part of security services and worked directly on emergency preparedness. He was also President of ACE-AFSCME union for school employees.John truly and deeply loved being with his family and friends. He had a good time everywhere he went and never met a stranger. He is “Captain John” to many because of the endless hours he would spend on the boat. He was happy to teach someone to ski or wakeboard or torment anyone who was willing to take a ride on the wild side on one of the many behind the boat rides. If John was not on his boat he could be found riding his motorcycle. He loved the comradery of riding with his friends in “The Sons of Arthritis” motorcycle group as well as the Blue Knights, Usual Suspects and Exiled. Golf was another activity that tormented John. He never came home from a golf game happy.John loved music of all kinds, if it was a county song he sang it, if it was a dance song you would find him on the dance floor with Barbara cutting a rug. John fell in love with Barbara at first sight.
