Joseph Edward Gloystein, passed away on November 14, 2023, in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 31, 1946, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Wallace and Mary Gloystein. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother John Gloystein and sister Judy Gloystein.
Joe will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, with a brilliant mind and a creative heart. He held a deep love for his family and cherished the moments spent together. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Donna Gloystein, who stood by his side through life's joys and challenges.
As a devoted father and grandfather, Joe leaves behind his children: Sarah Lowery (Mike), Emily "Kate" Beckett (Bill), Kristy Beck (Dave), Ken Martin (Jill), Ben Martin (Wendy). Along with his adoring grandchildren Matt, Lauren, Isabelle, Ryan, Meagan, Addison, Nolan, Kylee, Hunter, Ayva, Cole, and Drew.
He was also a beloved brother to Jim Gloystein (Phyllis) and brother-in-law to Mary Gloystein and loving uncle to John, Megan, Jamie, Tom, Amanda, Michael, and Katie.
Growing up in Erie, Joe went to St. Mark's Seminary and Cathedral Preparatory School, followed by Gannon University. After courageously serving in the United States Army, he continued to serve through a long career with the US government in various roles in Washington, DC.
He held a lifelong passion for learning, seeking knowledge and growth at every opportunity. He was a prolific reader on all subjects but was especially drawn to all things history and politics. He loved libraries, museums, and art history. In addition, Joe had a beautiful creative side and was a tremendously talented artist.
Joe's absence leaves a void in the lives of his family who adored him. Yet, let us find solace in the memories we shared, knowing that his spirit lives on in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm where a Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private.
