Joseph (Joe) Dellard Sams, 84, of Lusby, MD passed away on April 26, 2013. He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on October 9, 1928, the son of Lue Zelia and Olin D. Sams.He was educated in Parkersburg West Virginia. Joe served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Hawaii and the Merchant Marines stationed on the Great Lakes, Michigan. After being honorably discharged he began his career as a carpenter working career as a carpenter, working alongside his father and brothers. In 1952 he married Betty Lou Le Masters. In 1958 they moved to Alexandria Virginia, then to Washington DC where they lived for eight years. In 1966 they moved to Charlotte Hall Maryland where they raised their seven children. In 1965 Joe began Sams' Produce Company delivering produce to many well-known restaurants and large restaurants chains. Prior to retirement he returned to home building.More than anything Joe loved his family, something he told them often. He was a hard worker, and an outstanding father and provider for his family. He made sure that his family never wanted for anything. Joe was a skilled golfer, loved to work with his hands and found many creative outlets throughout the years.In addition to his parents Joe is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Jackie (Jack), Samuel Stidger (Bud), James Michael, sister, Diane Marie and daughter Joanne Lee Renner.Joe is survived by his brother Charles Sams, of Charleston, SC, his devoted wife of 60 years, Betty Lou (LeMasters) Sams, daughters, Nancy Dunbar (John) of Silsby, TX, Joyce Zellmer of Pikesville, MD, Barbara Buchanan (Robert) of Charlotte Hall, MD, and sons, Joseph Griffith (Chrystal) of Kittanning, PA, Joseph Sams (Sandra) of Prince Frederick, MD, Mark Sams of Richmond, VA, and Gregory Sams (Tammy) of Windsor Mills, MD, 23 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. In 2004 Joe met his eldest Joseph Griffith, who was given up for adoption without his knowledge. Over the years they have formed a very close relationship.
