Josephine (Jo) Mary Lanza Cunningham, of Hillside, Maryland, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at Providence Place Assisted Living in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.Born August 16, 1915 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Louis and Francesca (Marzullo) Lanza. She attended elementary and high school in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. Josephine lived in McKees Rocks until accepting a call from the Pentagon when she moved to the Washington D. C. area. She worked there for eight years until marrying David E. Cunningham, Jr. Mrs. Cunningham was a lifetime member of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she had over 45 years of service and was an honorary member of Forestville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was the Past President of the former Hillside Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked for the Board of Elections as an election judge and was Life Member at the Morningside VFW, Post 9619. She enjoyed her flower gardens, bowling and her grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her husband, David E.Cunningham, brothers Louie, Sam, Joe, and Larry Lanza and 2 sisters, Lena Lanza and Mary Ramsey. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law David and Sharon Cunningham, of Laurel, Maryland, daughter and son-in-law, Georgia (GeGe) and Bob Wilson of Clinton, Maryland and Joanie and Kenny Mangum of St. Thomas, Pennsylvania, granddaughter and her husband, Trisha and Justin Case, of Huntingtown, Maryland and grandsons, Army Sgt. Douglas Mangum and Ethan Mangum. Jo is also survived by 2 siblings, Anne Imrie and Frank Lanza and step-grandson & wife Marc & Whitney Breitschwerdt and five step-great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler, Brice, Summer and Travis Breitschwerdt. Visitation will be Thursady, March 26, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, March 27, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Saturday, March 28, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Lee’s Funeral Home 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, Maryland with a Fire Department memorial service at 7:00 p.m. on March 27, 2009.
