Joy Delores Wiggins

June 16, 1944 — January 25, 2025

Laveen, Arizona

Joy Delores Wiggins, the daughter of Commodore and Julie May Greene was born in Clarksburg, WV on June 16th, 1944. She was a graduate of Washington Irving High School. She then attended Washington Business School for Legal Stenography. Joy possessed superior organizational, communication and relationship skills. For 15 years her drive and commitment to excellence directly impacted the growth and development of the National Association of Community Health Centers; first as Executive Assistant and later as Director of Education and Training. Eventually, Joy moved to the Manatt Phelps and Phillips Law Firm. Once again, her attention to detail, "Can-Do" attitude, and work ethic produced exemplary results that contributed to the success of the company. The job was important, but it was the people behind the relationships that made every day memorable. For 35 years, Joy believed that every individual, from the cleaning crew to the senior partners, was essential to a team's achievements. Her nurturing presence and selflessness inspired those around her and created an environment where everyone felt valued. Where Joy went, success was sure to follow. Just like her name, she was the personification of JOY. Her smile lit up every room, her laughter was infectious, and her hugs offered solace. She cared deeply about the people in her life, sharing their pain and celebrating their triumphs. If she really liked you, you got a birthday book, one of her cakes, Mac n cheese, or a pan of Ziti. Family was the heart of Joy’s life. She took pride in organizing picnics, sending out monthly newsletters to keep everyone updated and friendly reminders of who had a birthday that month. Even has her health declined, she would still send out encouraging messages of love and faith. In her golden years, Joy enjoyed a peaceful life in Phoenix, AZ, alongside Robert, the love of her life. Her favorite pastimes included curling up with a good book, a glass of Zinfandel, enjoying the soothing sounds of Kem, and trying her luck at the penny slots. Joy has joined her daughter Jenelle Wiggins in heaven. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Wiggins Sr., her son Robert Wiggins Jr, daughter in-law (Angee Wiggins), two grandchildren (Khari and Aniya Wiggins), her brothers-in-law (Melvin and Elijah Wiggins), her closest cousins(Christine Hodges & Gloria Mitchell), childhood sister-like best friend (Cherry Earl), along with a host of relatives and the countless others who at some point in time claimed “Mama Cookie” as their own. Joy’s legacy of love, laughter, and compassion lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
