MSGT Kenneth Wayne Dickson, 73, of Temple Hills, MD, died peacefully at his home after several years of dealing with Parkinson’s and Dementia, surrounded by family members on July 2, 2023.
Ken was born on August 17, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio to Betty Dickson and Boyd Dickson. At three years old he moved to Westerville, Ohio with his Mom and Grandparents, Frank and Alice Wolfe.
He joined the Air Force after high school. During his military career he served at several Air Force bases in the United States. He also served at Osan AB, Korea as a member of the United Nations Command Advanced Secretariat, Panmumjom, Korea. While assigned to different offices at the Pentagon throughout his career, he had the opportunity and privilege of traveling with Congressional Delegations throughout Europe. He retired from the Air Force after 23 years of service.
After retiring from the Air Force he joined the Federal Government as a Civil Servant in the United States Coast Guard. He worked his way through the ranks and ended his career as a Security Specialist in the Office of the Director, Security Policy and Management after 21 years.
Ken loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved animals, especially his dog Misty, and his horse, Rusty. Ken enjoyed spending time on his boat fishing and his volunteer work with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Ken loved music and enjoyed singing with The National Christian Choir and other church choirs. Ken’s favorite time of year was Christmas and enjoyed playing Santa Claus. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Ken was a member of the Forest Park Church where he enjoyed working in the food pantry ministry.
Ken was proceeded in death by his Parents, Betty Dickson and Boyd Dickson, Grandparents Frank and Alice Wolfe, Brother Mark Dickson, Uncle Frank Jr and Aunt Betty Wolfe, Cousins Susan Wolfe and Suzanne Lawrence.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Wanda Dickson, stepdaughters Barbie (Randy) Young and Melissa (Donny) Chappell. Grandchildren David, Rob, Shelley, Ashley, Bill, Nicholas, Jesse, Julie, and Danny. Great grandchildren Jesse Jr and Josie. Sister in law Chae Dickson. Nephews Jim (Lyndsey) Dickson and Jeff Dickson. Great nephews Rhodes, Bennett and Smith. Cousins Mike Wolfe and Doug Lawrence.
A Memorial Service will be held in Ken’s honor at Forest Park Church on Saturday, July 29, 2023 located at 12995 Church Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601. Visitation will be held at 10:00am and services starting at 11:00am.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Forest Park Church.
