Louis Edward Witt III passed away suddenly on May 25, 2016. Ed was born August 9, 1940, in Cumberland, MD, graduated from LaSalle High School in 1958, and became an Eagle Scout in 1959. He attended Frostburg State Teacher's college where he met Bettie, his wife of 46 years. He was an active member of Sigma Tau Gamma, earned a Bachelor's degree in 1962, and his Master's degree in 1973. He became a physical education teacher in Prince George's County schools, retiring in 1997 after 34 years of service. He coached track and field teams and was involved in the county wrestling program. He spent most summers working for the Board of Education painting schools during the week and barbecuing chicken for Hines Hatchery on the weekends. Ed was a dedicated member of the Train Collector's Association with an impressive collection of toy trains acquired at numerous TCA conventions. He was an easy companion and accompanied his children to lots of events and activities over the years including regular trips to the ocean, Williamsburg, VA, the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, the Maryland Wine Festival, and the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Edward Witt, Jr and Mary Angela Mulligan Witt, and his wife, Bettie Ann Umstead Witt. He leaves behind four children and their families: Theresa and Jay Grate and their daughters Eva and Zoe; Karen Witt and Larry Goeller and their children Austin, Diana and Janet; Louis and Annemarie Witt and their daughters Lawryn and Natalie; and Alicia and David Clugh. His faithful companions the last many years, his cats Tommy and Squirt, have been adopted by the Clughs into a loving home. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
