Celebrating the Life of\n \nLafayette Wallace Phillips Sr.\n \nAugust 31, 1934 – October 6, 2010\n \nLafayette Wallace Phillips Sr. was born August 31, 1934 to the late Haynie Phillips and Hattie Sue Phillips of Blackstone, VA. He was the youngest son of thirteen children. He was a devoted son to his parents and a devoted brother to his siblings. \n \nHe was baptized and a member at Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church and was an excellent scholar and athlete while attending Luther H Foster High School. While wearing the number 67 he was an outstanding end and was offered scholarship to attend college. He declined the scholarship and enrolled in the United States Air Force. He wed Doris Winn of Kenbridge, VA. On January 1st, 1956 he became a father to his first son Lafayette W. Phillips Jr.\n \nWhile in the United States Air Force he obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. In his travels throughout the United States and Asia he was a dedicated employee, friend, father, son and brother. He retired from the Air Force and became a Federal Government Employee until he later retired. He continued his education in a 2 year study at Bellevue Community College in Ohamha, NE where he studied Real Estate. He used his education to obtain a position as a Century 21 realtor. He also took courses in Prince George’s Community College in Maryland. He loved waking up and reading his Bible on a daily basis.\n \nLafayette loved his family very much. He was always available to his mother and father, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He took great pride in his cars and home. He was a scout leader and an excellent fisherman. He enjoyed camping, fishing, sports and outdoor activities, reading his bible and working in the yard.\n \nHe married Annette E. Erinna in July 1984. He became father to his second son Lamar Wesson Phillips. He was a loyal husband and provider to Annette and a loving and caring father to Lamar for over 25 years. He had a fight with cancer several years ago, but through his physical and spiritual strength he overcame the disease for years until it re-appeared within the past months. \n \nLafayette leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Annette Gibbs Phillips, two sons Lamar Wesson Phillips and Lafayette Wallace Phillips II, two grand children Heather Lillian Phillips and Lafayette Wallace Phillips III, two sisters Beatrice Patterson, and Mildred Eskridge, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who all had the blessing of sharing time with this blessed man of God.\n \n \n \nOrder of Service\n \nThe Instrumental Meditation\n \n \n \nThe Moments of Visitation\n \n \n \nThe Expressions of Affection\n \n \n \nThe Words of Reflection\n \nLafayette W.
