Lanta F. Ellis

Lanta F. Ellis, age 88, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family.She was born in Moline, IL, on January 29, 1926, to Mary (O’Neil) and Joseph Haiselup, one of seven children.She married John E. Ellis, Jr., and started their family of seven children. John served in the U. S. Army Air Force and they were both volunteers with the Civil Air Patrol. After John’s death in January, 1981, Lanta worked for their oldest son, John E. Ellis, III, owner of Ellis Restoration. She loved her crafts…everyone received matching potholders and drink coasters, and there are a number of homemade quilts covering many a bed in her family’s homes. She also loved to gamble. She was often taken to play the slot machines and the look on her face when she won was priceless. Lanta was the beloved wife of the late John E. Ellis, Jr. and the loving mother of John Ellis, III and his wife Cheryl, Deborah Bailey, Sheri Updike and her husband Michael, David Ellis and his wife Sharon, Larry Ellis, Gary Ellis and his wife Joanne and the late Daniel Ellis and is wife Peggy.She was the grandmother of John Ellis, IV, Deanna Ellis Burke, Richard Bailey, Jr., Lanta Updike Chase, Brandy Updike Perez, Wendy Updike, Casey Updike Stansbury, Crystal Ellis Rivera, David Ellis, Jr., Chrissy, Missy and Daniel Ellis, Jr., Larry Ellis, Jr., Heather Ellis Wileman and Gary Ellis, Jr.She was the great-grandmother of Kaylann and Chase Ellis, Brittney and Michael Burke, Justina, Ashlyn, Jace and Elijah Bailey, Isabella Santore, Thomas Abel, Lauren and Michael Buckholtz, Leianna Haines, David, Zak, Jr., Taylor and Keirstin Perez, Christopher, and Robert Haines, Jr., Ashley Haislipp, Mariah Updike, Samantha Hottle, Haley Stansbury, Devin Menard, Chloe Norwood and Haley Rivera. She was the great-great-grandmother of Jonathan Michael Haines.Lanta is pre-deceased by her husband, parents, son and daughter-in-law and her six siblings.She loved to be surrounded by family, the more the merrier.
